AgroMozal” boosts Agricultural Production in Boane and Namaacha

09/05/2022

Mozal Aluminium in collaboration with Fundação Soico (FUNDASO) a local non-governmental organization, founded in 2018, a million dollars project named “AGROMOZAL” in Mozambique, which aims to combat poverty and hunger by assisting local farmers in becoming more productive, sustainable, and competitive to increase their income.

AGROMOZAL was implemented with the help of nine agricultural associations in Boane and Namaacha, districts of Maputo Province. The project dispenses fertilizers and seeds of superior quality, with high germination and yield ratios, for crops such as cabbage, cucumber, pepper, and onion, alongside cereals such as corn. It has reached up to 600 producers in nine growers’ associations and continues to have a good impact on the farmers that are a part of it, enabling them to progress from conventional subsistence agricultural techniques to more sustainable practices.

AGROMOZAL has had a beneficial impact in three key areas after its first year of implementation: delivering nutritious food to communities, providing revenue to local farmers, and growing the local economy. It assisted farmers in increasing their income by roughly 520 percent on average between 2018 and 2021, as well as increasing their food intake from one to two or three meals each day.

The next phase is to increase the connections between local farmers and consumers, such as supermarkets, restaurants, and shops.  Read more
