Cornelder’s Mozambique supports the prevention of Covid-19 spread in Beira

09/05/2022

Cornelder de Moçambique (CdM) organized “Juntos Contra a COVID-19”, a local production project of face masks and protective visors in partnership with six non-profit cutting and sewing organizations. The associations (Young Africa, Renascer do Sol, Restaurando Sonhos and Paróquias São José da Munhava, Macuti and Matacuane) who received from CdM 90 sewing machines and raw materials to produce more than 60,000 face masks and visors which would be handed out in areas with high COVID-19 transmission potential.

The project had two phases, in the first phase, 30,000 masks were produced and addressed to the formal & informal markets as well as the public transport sector. In the second phase, more than 28,800 masks were distributed to the vulnerable population residing in the City of Beira.

After a successful project implementation, CdM, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jan De Vries issued honorary diplomas to the associations as gratitude for their involvement. Jan De Vries emphasized that the associations would be able to continue the project, allowing more people to have access to the masks and visors.

For the organizations, it meant strengthening their training capacity, which would allow for young people to participate in the cutting and sewing courses evolving the fight against poverty.
