In the scope of the initiative “Woman in Industry”, Mozal has awarded 20 scholarships for the year of 2022 to an equal number of female students of the Engineering Faculty of UEM. The objective of this initiative is to cause a social change and to stimulate girls to attend engineering courses to guarantee gender balance, since the number of female students entering these sectors is less than desired.

On the occasion, Mozal’s Executive Director of Corporate Affairs, Mateus Mosse, characterized the low participation of women in the industry as a social problem, pointing as an example Mozal whose participation of women is only 10 percent. He added that “there is a basic problem dominated by stereotypes in relation to women, according to which they do not have the skills to work in an industry. This prevents them from being trained in this area and therefore they cannot be integrated into the industry.”

Representing the Faculty of Engineering, Doctor Irene de Carvalho, thanked Mozal for the gesture and encouraged more companies, between public and private sector, to embrace similar initiatives to raise the entry rates of girls, which currently stand at around 16 percent. Benilde Langa, representing the beneficiaries, thanked the initiative and promised to do everything to jointly guarantee the scholarship during the 4 years of training.
