SASOL's Local Content Development Ecosytem in Mozambique

SASOL entered the Mozambican market in the late 1990s with an initial investment of US$1.25 billion. During its implementation and operations, to make its value chain robust, SASOL carried out multiple local content plans, aimed at employing Mozambicans and empowering local companies with emphasis to small and medium enterprises.

In 2019 SASOL presented the report of activities, goals and plans related to local content. As an example, more than 93% of the workforce in the different business areas with SASOL is Mozambican, highlighting the fact that management and administration positions are filled by Mozambicans, in its more than 570 permanent jobs, 3500 temporary jobs, and approximately 600 employment opportunities for communities.

In the corporate local content plan, SASOL established, in 2016 the Inhassoro Training Center which has over 465 qualified trainees. Furthermore, up to 60% of SASOL’s operational expenditures were in Mozambican or Mozambique-owned companies having spent over $1.2 billion including ongoing leadership development, skills transfer, and capacity building plans.

In the same report, SASOL pledged to continue with its Local Content plans with prospects of spending about $1.18 billion on different projects until 2025. Read More
