ExxonMobil Foundation Supports Women Empowerment

The Business Women Connect (BWC) is an initiative, funded by the ExxonMobil Foundation, and implemented in partnership with TechnoServe Mozambique. The initiative, created in the context of ExxonMobil “Women’s economic opportunity initiative” aims to increase women’s economic opportunity. It is an ongoing program, and each project of the program is funded with $300 000 yearly. BWC has been implemented in the provinces of Maputo, Gaza, and Inhambane and focuses on financial management, merchandise management, marketing, customer service, and investing in the business. The program has supported owners of grocery stores, restaurants and takeaways, tailors, and beauty salons. 

The impacts of BWC are already visible and ExxonMobil foundation aims to continue with the program. So far, the BWC has provided business literacy training for over 1,000 women and nearly 100 bank agents in Mozambique. A major part of the beneficiaries has increased their income and their business has also registered improvements. Read more
